One purpose in posting this website is to help original
members of the 283rd Engineers and their descendants to
re-connect with other members and/or to learn more about
their unit's activities and history.
To this end, a complete listing of the membership of the 283rd as it existed in May of 1945 while still stationed in Germany is given below. Only hometowns are available here, but an inquiry to the Secretary of the 283rd Engineer Association can provide a pre-war address and possibly post-war addresses if that member was ever in contact with the Association. There are approximately 700 names on the roster, listed alphabetically. Refer to the chart at the bottom of the table for the key to the individual soldier's company/platoon assignment, and be patient, the list is a bit slow to load!
