Reunion News

The 283rd Engineer Association met for their 58th Annual Reunion at the Settle Inn & Resort in Branson, MO,on October 17 - 20, 2007.

The group had a wonderful time, renewing old acquaintances, telling (and re-telling!) old stories, enjoying the wonderful hospitality of the Inn, and touring some of the sights of Branson. These included the Branson Veteran's Memorial, the lock and dam holding back Lake Taneycomo, and a lavish meal and spectacular show aboard the "Branson Belle" showboat (which remained tied up to it's mooring because the paddle wheel mechanism was away being repaired). (Those of us old soldiers who had been deathly sick aboard the "General Black", crossing the wild Atlantic in 1944, were grateful for the delay!)

We enjoyed a wonderful banquet at the Inn on Saturday, after which was held our business meeting. With great reluctance, the group decided that this would be our last formal reunion. Our numbers are declining to the point where making hotel reservations and setting up a program is a too large a problem. But we decided that we would retain our close-knit friendships and see each other as often as possible. The schedule of dues has been reduced, but we will retain some funds in the treasury to offset the costs of maintaining this website and the preparation and distribution of Newsletters and other mailings.

We will depend on our members to use our membership directory as a means of communicating with each other, and we strongly invite anyone who has any connection with the 283rd, and found us here on this website to contact us and catch up with the news of the organization and its members, by using the "Contact Us" choice on the site menu.
